Our story began on October 25th 2005. Sonia was a member of CatStevens.com since 2001, a fan site dedicated to the life and the music of the great musician. She sent many of his covers on the site, sang in her own way: Lilywhite, The wind, Where do the children play and many others.
The site was really very good run and it was like a big family whose members were from all over the world. Each one chose a nickname and hers was Ciociosan, like the protagonist of Madama Butterfly, Puccini’s opera. She always loved this little woman so full of hope and passion and since she couldn’t sing her arias because her voice of mezzosoprano, she decided that almost the name should always belong to her.
She had a lot of reviews sent by the members of the site about her covers and she always answered back to thank and change some lines.
She found a review on October 25th 2005 that she didn’t know would have changed most of her life. The line was about “Lilywhite” and goes like “Nice cover. Hope more on the way. Patton” They started send messages and in a few days they were talking by phone. It was so comfortable for the both of them talk, laugh, sending songs … and a few days after Greg flow to Italy to meet Sonia. He never had a passport but he felt he needed his first one to take the plane and fly to Italy, 6000 miles away. They spent just a couple of days together: it was like they know one another since the high school. No need to explain anything, just a look and everything was perfect. They sang and play the whole time long. This was the starting of a cooperation, of a friendship which will last forever. After a couple of week, Sonia took the plane and for the first time she was in L.A., to record their first CD together.
It sounds like a script for a movie, but this is the way we met. Since then, a long way has been done, performing all over in Europe and writing songs. Sonia has become a better guitar player thank to Greg and she had to meet and know new musicians: Tom Petty and the Heartbreackers, who she never heard before, became her all time favorite band. Greg got to know the story and the music of a great Italian musician, Fabrizio De Andrè, along with many others. They met in person James Taylor, Greg’s all time favorite musician, in February 2006…
Many dreams became true and they are going ahead… with the same smile and complicity of the first day.
